“You've made a mark on the world if you just get through it.”

This is literally everything I ire and adore about filmmaking. I loved how director Jennie Livingston really got out of the way of the individual stories highlighted here and just allowed them to unfold as naturally as possible. Some have complained that the documentary feels “scattered” as a result, but I couldn’t disagree more. The film does jump around often, but all of these interviews beautifully complement…

Honest to God unlike ANYTHING I’ve ever seen before. I wasn’t sure what I was in for with the first few episodes, but once I started riding Coel’s rhythm, I was HOOKED. Reminded me so much of Promising Young Woman in how it subversively tackles the subject matter of sexual assault in such an innovative and intricate way that keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole way through, with each episode here more unpredictable than the last.…

“Do all lovers feel they’re inventing something?”

Portrait of a Lady on Fire is a simply staggering piece of sensual cinema, summoning a seductive spell upon its audience and enveloping every viewer in this elegant and enchanting experience with Céline Sciamma’s delicate direction and the delectable dual performances of Noémie Merlant and Adèle Haenel.

While the film is a slow-burn without a doubt, this only makes its seduction all the more surreptitious. You’re most certainly aware of the leisurely pace,…

Absolutely BAFFLING how this was made in 1975 and yet it’s LEAGUES more progressive than 90% of the content produced today.

Al Pacino really said “TRANS RIGHTS!” huh?

TIFF 2021 - Film #18

Touching, tragic, and terribly timely, this of an Afghan refugee escaping his home country and simultaneously coming to with his sexuality is a tour de force of filmmaking, commendably shining a light on a story so rarely seen in cinema. Stunning.

The scene where Ali’s Juan unpacks the meaning of the word “faggot” to Chiron is one of the most well-written, well-acted, and well-directed scenes of the past decade - hell, maybe even the past century. I had such a visceral reaction to it on my first watch, and the impact still remains, almost three years later. Definitely my favorite Best Picture winner in recent memory, by FAR.

Barry Jenkins, never stop making movies.

Hunter Schafer’s Jules Vaughn was the first fictional character who made me feel “seen” onscreen, and without her, I wouldn’t have had the courage to come out.

Ahead of the Season 2 finale, this is my experience with Euphoria, courtesy of Awards Watch. ❤️

Those who know me well know how much Hunter Schafer’s work in Euphoria has meant to me and, therefore, how unbelievably exciting it was to interview her as she continues on her Emmy campaign. I truly can’t thank Awards Watch enough for giving me the chance to chat with one of my greatest inspirations, and I’d love it if you’d give it a watch!

“You do what you love, and fuck the rest.”

I could literally spend 10 more hours with the Hoover family and never get bored. Every time the credits start rolling, I get a little heartbroken that my time is up with this story and these characters and that’s the sign of a great movie. Scripts about dysfunctional family dynamics are an absolute *favorite* of mine so this is totally up my alley - and any writer who can a fit…
