In honor of the release of Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, I wrote this incredibly personal piece about why coming-of-age movies mean so much to me, by allowing me to vicariously live through the female adolescence I never experienced and filling in the holes of my history :’)
it kinda feels like it’s impossible to talk about this movie these days. most everyone has such an extreme opinion on it at this point, and when you tell someone what yours is, it’s almost as if they instantly assume they know everything about you - the entirety of your ideologies, experiences, and… well, everything else.
so, i try to refrain from talking about it for that reason. it made a massive impact on me when i first saw it…
