I almost loathe this movie for being so perfect on every level and also being absolutely devastating to the point of being impossible to fully comprehend. Gena Rowlands surely has got to be one of the greatest actresses of all time.

Jesus Christ that score as well. I think there are a lot of things that make the scenes in this film so emotionally compelling but for me I think the most personally impactful technical element was the score. Maybe I just have a weakness for sad piano music because the score isn’t exactly complex musically but combined with everything else it just makes this super fucking crushing. 

Usually when I enjoy a movie I have a lot to say about how and why I enjoy watching it but this is definitely a beast to be ired rather then enjoyed. This is far from a watch that you enjoy. This is a watch that captivates you, but not so mercifully as to not make it as painful as possible to endure.
