there's no other film that captures with such brutal perfection what it is to be alive at this point in history. the complete and utter hopelessness of certain yet preventable doom; the spiritual and moral despair over what can be done; and the necessity of reaching outward despite that.

made my heart feel full! also made me want to smoke cigarettes. renata reinsve and anders danielsen lie both give stunning, vulnerable performances. it's moving, but it's also irreverant and sharp. watching this made me feel how reading sally rooney does.

doug jones is wonderful as orlock, but aside from that there's not much to say. billed as a "remix" for its use of green-screened murnau backgrounds, but mostly comes across as a pale and uncanny imitation.

say what you will about orcs, their advancements in the field of prosthetics is commendable

i've never watched a film that felt so evil. a found footage film that genuinely feels real and malevolent. the atmosphere as things build is so dark and heavy, and the inevitable conclusion is horrifying.
