Harry and Max

2004

★★★½ Liked

Harry and Max feels like a fever dream. This is brotherly incest drama all the way through, written like an early 2000s popstar fanfiction, with all the smut dialogue and dynamics you can imagine. Probably inspired by Nick and Aaron Carter, which only makes it that much more jarring near the height of their teen idol popularity. Craziest thing is, it's shot like a real movie, and phenomenally so. I can see why this was accepted at Sundance and how it would live in the depths of the independent circuit all these years later. Never really handles the centric romantic dilemma or its referenced themes of sexual coercion and grooming with care, which is why it almost doesn't feel real. Just over 70 minutes long, so if you're curious, I say give it a shot. Bryce Johnson and Cole Williams were great here, and the rest just needs to be seen to be believed.
