Incredible final act and maybe the ultimate proof of how certain franchises thrive more in animation. Michael Bay a rare exception to this rule.

I’m really bummed how late I am to this movie. Maybe even more bummed because I’m late to all the drill jokes.
Amy Holden Jones calling out her haters for making an exploitation film is endlessly cool.

Torn between loving that there’s an attempt at something different but not loving the ending because its too cowardly to commit to its own thesis and reduces the film to a predictable (albeit somewhat exciting) chase sequence.
Fortunately, McAvoy’s massive performance (drop the workout routine) is enough to make an average movie extremely entertaining.
Really strange movie to watch in 2024, is this the most memed movie…ever?
Still good, obviously, and I’m convinced Harron’s direction is the reason the satire doesn’t devolve into surface level shtick.
Maybe the most frustrating movie in the MCU because there are moments where it’s by and far the best movie in the universe, but then it immediately buckles under the weight of its overly ambitious story. The ingredients are there, but it’s attempting to make 5 meals at once and so inevitably, everything is undercooked.
Oh well, every time I hear “Beautiful Makkari” I kick my feet and sometimes that’s enough.

The complete unraveling of the third act doesn’t outweigh my immense love for the first two-thirds of the movie, but it becomes increasingly frustrating to see these stories abandon their intimacy for a big CGI creature fight scene in a world that looks like mud.
Gets better and better with each ing year. Motherhood as horror, grief as the monster that will never go away— Jennifer Kent, we need you booked and busy. Happy 10 years to The Babadook!
What the caterpillar calls the end, the rest of the world calls a butterfly.
Wonder how the reception would be if this wasn’t shoved to streaming. Oh well, it’s still a gem and one that I’m elated has held up.
Still really enjoy this!! It’s more frustrating than more recent MCU projects because there are glimmers of an interesting story scattered throughout but suffers from classic MCU syndrome of overstuffing. Obviously it’s hard to not think if things would be different if this was released much earlier and had a sequel to actually flesh out the family dynamics and villain.
Oh well! Still weirdly excited for Thunderbolts*
I’m ready for the David Jonsson and Cailee Spaeny take over.
Up there with one my favorite movie endings, right down to the “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” cover.

Even more convinced no one else could have adapted this as effective as Snyder. A story that perfectly compliments his tendencies to overindulge in visual grandeur because like in Watchmen, there’s so much power in an image. The birth of Dr. Manhattan is an endlessly breathtaking sequence— flawlessly constructed and Snyder at the top of his game.
This is Snyder’s best.
We read and then compared the graphic novel to the movie on the podcast, and yes, it is a more than satisfactory adaptation. At times, better.
