Gurraa’s review published on Letterboxd:
Dune: Part Two: All of Villeneuve's films maintain an exceptionally high standard, never delivering a dud, and this one proves once again he’s one of few directors capable of handling monumental work like Dune, as well as Blade Runner.
However, I’m concerned about the challenges of adapting the books to film, they veer into extremely bizarre territories and Denis already commented on that and that he’s most likely done with the franchise if he directs Dune Messiah.
With the success of this, I can see into the future like Paul and predict that the studio will milk this universe akin to current blockbuster franchises, and I hope they don’t lower the standards set by Villeneuve, the amazing cast and crew, just to hire soulless, uncreative, incompetent people for the potential onslaught of projects down the line.
On a side note, whenever my friend and I found ourselves temporarily blinded by the flashbangs, transitioning abruptly from dark scenes to the blazing light of the desert sun, we couldn't help but chuckle. Good one Denis.
Also, without thinking of the similarities, I rewatched Life of Brian a day before this, and when Stilgar repeatedly insisted that Paul is the Messiah, I couldn’t help but think of this classic scene.
