Mind is blown, and heart is heavy. All the problems I had with Bong Joon Ho are miraculously solved in this one. Perhaps it’s because he’s working with a story set in his own homeland, or perhaps it’s because the story feels so personal. I love how the murder mystery turned out to be a macguffin, and how the focus was always on exploring these two character studies. Love how both the mother and son are revealed to be essentially the same. And, also love, how this is designed like a very Park Chan-wook film.
