IN-FUCKING-CREDIBLE!!!

The Raid 2 is single handedly the best action movie I ever seen! The action choreography was absolutely mind blowing. The Raid 2 is a mixture of Die Hard and Kill Bill on steroids. I'm sorry young Bruce Willis, Iko Uwais has taken your place as my favorite action star of all time. The hand to hand combat is insane. I witnessed the great car chase sequence of my life. If you ever see a chick wielding hammers, RUN! Baseball Bat Guy was a beast too. The film is also shot with amazing precision.

After I left the theater, I needed a huge drink of water to cool myself down because I was totally amped. Just WOW! I seriously can't put the last 30 minutes into words.

This film is nothing short of a game changer for action films.

Having seen countless reviews I got the distinct impression it was top heavy in boring drama and the real kick ass action only happens in the last 20 to 30 minutes! It couldn't have been further from the truth! You couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting a phenomenal action sequence from beginning to end for it was riddled with it!

With “The Raid”, director Gareth Evans took a very minimalist approach. Probably because of budgetary restraints he set the whole movie in one building, focused on just a handful of character and told the bare minimum of a story. With The Raid 2 he took exactly the opposite approach.

Instead of minimalistic, here everything is big, long and epic. Lots of locations, (too) many characters and also a lot more story to tell. Are 2 ½ hour necessary for a martial-arts action movie like this? Probably not. But if you make one it better be as awesome and jaw-droppingly spectacular as this one.

It’s familiar in design but larger in scale. The action pieces upheld the stellar choreography and brutality, and the stakes feel more important. 

However, the tight and simple nature of The Raid 1 will always stand out to me.

No one, absolutely no one in the history of human-destroying undercover cop thrillers and heroic bloodshed has earned those last words quite like Rama. Still a benchmark for modern action cinema. Still a beastly sequel.

Things I've learned from The Raid 2:

- Indonesian people snap like twigs.

- I didn't like the first film because of its lack of plot and its repetitive nature. The Raid 2 proves that actually having a plot does not necessarily make a film better.

- If I ever were to take over Indonesian organized crime I'd do two things. First close all the hardware stores and second bring guns. They'd have no weapons and the guns they have are useless as they are all crap at shooting them.

- Indonesian Bruce Campbell exists!!! His name is Arifin Putra. Once you have dubbed him Indonesian Bruce Campbell you simply cannot see him any other way.
