A good example of a film that didn't quite know where to end it--if it had cut out during that bit where camera panned away while sis was laughing to herself and repeating 'we made it', I would have given it three stars easy.
other twists I would have liked more:
+the one sister was dead/a hallucination THE ENTIRE TIME.
+the shark was a hallucination and it turned out that Mandy Moore KILLED HER SISTER
+the divers were a hallucination and it turned out the shark was just working through some issues.
+Mexico was a hallucination and it turned out to be a metaphor for psyching oneself up to leave the house on a Friday night.

The it's-just-a-dream trope needs to be taken out back and put down.
I completely understand why people are torn over this movie. It’s got some really good things going for it, but it’s also hampered by some not so good things. Well, mostly one not so good thing, but it’s a pretty important thing.
This is yet another “dumb American tourists make a sketchy decision and end up in trouble” type deal with two sisters deciding to go cage diving with some guys they just met. The cable snaps, the cage goes down...47 meters...and there are sharks everywhere. As a popcorn movie, this definitely delivers the goods. It’s tense as hell and has some really unexpected scares plus some well done jump scares. The idea of drowning or suffocating kinda terrifies me…
