For years, I’ve considered Mike Flanagan a tragic example of a filmmaker who doesn’t know what’s good for him. He has natural talent as a horror director, and for a while he was doing work that showed it off. Mike Flanagan liked to hide things—in shadows, in corners, under beds and behind doorframes.
