ChaosBeetle’s review published on Letterboxd:
Probably the most horrific horror movie I’ve seen for all the right reasons and it mainly comes down to the ending. After itting to every heinous action he’s committed, Patrick STILL gets off scot free because of the numerous times he’s used his facade and lies to his advantage. And getting that punishment was basically his goal throughout the entire climax. It’s not entirely clear what happened after that night with the police, maybe every waking action that happened was in Patrick’s head since the movie is based on how he sees the world and people around him… or probably stupider, maybe the whole thing was covered up just to keep Patrick’s image, the one thing he does throughout the entire movie. It’s not clear what happened (which I think only adds to the horror of the film since every outcome possible is horrific no matter what but the fact that there is no definitive outcome actually makes the whole ending even more creepy) but at the end of the day, this is my biggest takeaway. No matter how many atrocities he’s committed, no matter how many corpses consume his mind… he’ll always get away with it. Even when punishment is the only catharsis he has left.
