8.7 out of 10. Unpopular opinion: Dune 1>Dune 2. The sequel without a doubt possesses stronger highs, however I had some problems with it. Really wasn’t a fan of the Paul-Chani romance. I thought that their scenes really bogged down the film at times and took screen time away from other things that were far more deserving. I think that Chani as a character should’ve had a much smaller role and I don’t like how we ended on her face acting like she is that important of a character. Timothee Chalamet and Austin Butler both deliver career defining performances and the final battle between the two was the true definition of EPIC. I do wish we got some more time with Feyd-Rautha, so menacing. Another issue I had was the fact that Lea Seydoux was only really in one scene. Idk I felt like more scenes with her would’ve benefited the film and helped reduce the repetitive nature of the Fremen scenes.
Obviously some of the best visuals and sound design we’ve ever seen, and most of the performances were great.
Paul Atreides is an all time elite character and no matter what Chani says, I enjoyed seeing him become who he was destined to be.
