Dirty Dancing

I don’t know how this movie crammed every single cliche romance trope from the past century into one movie and made it work, but here we are.
This movie is like cinnamon; sweet and not lacking in texture whatsoever but oh so spicy when it needs to be. Legitimately great performances from almost all the actors involved and impactful direction from the late Emile Ardolino bring this movie up from what could have been a poorly aged disaster to well deserved iconic status. Like I said, this movie is so tropey, but it just works so well because you care about the characters so damn much. Hell, even that ending, as fairytale as it is, legitimately got me a little misty eyed. Because of all the social issues the movie decided to tackle (surprisingly well, might I add) and meta subtext involving the openly gay director who later died from the AIDS crisis, it feels less like a typical happy ending and more like a hopeful vision of a brighter future. I can see why this is one of my dad’s favorite movies now, this was an absolute banger and I can’t wait to watch it again!
